Bahrain is an independent Arab and Muslim country. On 14 February 2002, Bahrain became a Democratic Constitutional Kingdom. It is ruled by the King along with representatives appointed from the community.
 
 
   
The Kingdom of Bahrain is an archipelago of more than thirty (30) small islands located half way down the eastern coast of Saudi Arabia in the Arabian Gulf (Persian Gulf). The capital of Bahrain is Manama.
   
The largest island in the Kingdom of Bahrain is about 48 km long and 16 km wide (about 32 miles long and 10 miles wide). It is connected to Muharraq, the second largest island, (location of Bahrain International Airport), by a causeway. Bahrain is also connected to Saudi Arabia by the 26 km. King Fahd Causeway.
   
The name Bahrain means "two seas" and refers to the fact that the "sweet water springs" which are under the sea mix with the salty sea water.
 
The Kingdom of Bahrain offers tourists and visitors several opportunities to enjoy its rich history which dates back several thousand years. They can visit archaeological digs, historical sites, museums, and several of the local villages where they can watch traditional crafts being made.
   
Visitors can enjoy many water sports including swimming, boating, fishing, and pearl diving. Boat trips to other islands are sure to provide many memorable adventures. Other attractions include football (soccer), golf, desert adventures including falconry, camping, and horseback riding and racing.

Hours can be spent shopping in traditional old souqs and modern shopping malls or attending cinema and theater. Visitors can enjoy a wide variety of foods from many countries in restaurants and in hotels.
